Hey peeps.
Ok, this layout is done.. and so am I
Today after 3 hours of sleep I *finally* (after 5 years of shit) got my unconditional LPR status here in the USA (lawful permanent residency).
So I think that's cause to celebrate and what better way to do that than with a cracking machine, possibly BWB's best machine ever made?
Before you rush off to play this I wanted to note what is different in this release over the other 3 or 4 you may have had before.
The 4 (Pete did one also) that are out there already are based on the same exact artwork.
When the original photos arrived with me from Retrofruit I spent a few days/weeks cleaning up the flashburn and everything else. However, back then my photoshop skills were extremely primitive and thus there were still alot of 'suspect' areas on the art, namely dodgy looking edgings and problems with the Skew.
There was also alot of the surround that was damaged really bad and I didnt know of a way to fix that then so I left it.. Also the reel 'displays' below the reels that display the invisible rat lamps were crapped up as were the reel surrounds.
At that time people were finally starting to share their stuff in FME.. it was a momentous occasion because before then anyone who got hold of a flyer or resources hoarded them and refused to share... very frustrating when you live in the USA thousands of miles from a fruit machine...
So I decided to buck the trend and offered up the 'completed' art to harvey, who did a DX at the same time as mine (mine was in a cabinet, ewww awful thing that was) and harv's was a full screen job.
Both at the time looked pretty damn sexy...
Then Pete bettered them with one of his SAS series layouts using the same artwork I had given to harvey, meaning whilst it was a much better presentation it still had the same graphical flaws that marred the other 2.
In 2003 I decided to do one of my then 2003 series, and again it was an improvement but still it was far from anything to be considered perfect.
So this time I made sure all of the overlooked things (that got overlooked in an excited stupor to get this machine into playable graphical status) were taken care of.
This includes but isnt limited to (its taken about 3 weeks of photoshopping and alot of it was late hours so I forget...)
All the banding fixed on the topglass, all of the stroking has been color balanced also and the skewing has been sorted out so that it doesnt bend like it used to near the centre.
On the bottomglass the A and the 4p win that used to be off color (as these were lit in the photos and I didnt have the knowhow to match them then) have now been fixed.
The reel surroundings have been completely redrawn along with the areas that the invisible rats appear in.
More edging and stroke work has also been done on the bottomglass to make it look cleaner.
The bottomglass was also skewed as it was kinda 'fish eyed' like the topglass so that it is now nice and straight and both images have been sharpened and had a contrast adjustment to make them look real nice and deep in color.
This is also the first time (I dont recall petes layout exactly) that this machine has used 100% kosher reel images on the reels.. I did ask fishsta to scan the reels he has somewhere but in the end I found a large image of a rat and managed to put them all together ok, they have also been stroked as per the real machine was.
You'll also note that points about Ace Chase were taken on board and the effects done on the reels here are new.. theyre not Ace Chase reels with rats on them or anything recycled they are 3 days of work.
It also now has 100% kosher button legends C/O leeham and Fruitsim (Banker and Chase it !)
And so that should about do it, Im sure itll be easy to see how much effort Ive stuck into this
Thanks out to :
Retrofruit - for the original pics.. I can remember the day he sent me them like clockwork I nearly messed mesel.
I had had to make do with a classic for over a year before pics finally surfaced and I cant say I have ever been that excited over something like this (marriage proposal acceptances and weddings aside, of course )
Lee - AKA Robotron for sending me the roms waaay back when.
Harvey banned him from FF and I havent seen him since
Wizard - for helping me to get the roms running.
Dialtone - for sussing out test mode and getting me started on the classic
Leeham, Fruitsim and everyone else.
For making sure that when machines like this need to be done once and for all that the full resources are there to make it possible.
And with that I wish you well and hope you all enjoy this layout !
Andy
