  2. Its an electrolytic reaction . Copper mixed with atmosphere, and changes in PH can change the coppers composition. Thats why condensate lines in boilers are plastic ! Heat, current, water, acid, alkali, they all have an effect - You see it on PCBs where the coppers gone a bubbly green, on copper water pipes where you have the crystalized mineral deposits around leaky valves /joints etc. Stevelancett will sympathise will all of you - he has the tech platform that is the worst for wire to board corrosion . There is a small RAM board on the black box tech used in the early bellfruits. Its connected to the main black box IO board via a link cable. The battery always eats the RAM board and then the corrosion travels up the cable, usually spreading out from the connection socket . People think just flywire the battery and that will be the end of it. Nope, that will buy you time thats all. The only way to avoid battery damage altogether is monitor battery conditions and replace a flat battery before they leak! or mod for coincells etc. Did you know a metal hot water pipe can be destroyed by an electrical line resting on top of it? theres videos of that on youtube!!

  3. Well finally managed to get the 2708 eprom module for the dataman programmer! So now I don't have to resurrect the BBC B micro from the loft every time I want to read one and store it on 5 1/4 inch floppy!!! read some sys 80 2708 eproms with it and it works just fine!! I managed to get the elnec branded version, they supply dataman as dataman are the resellers! pleased I finally have the module now!!

  4. The first ROM is totally blank, so it's not going to run. Looks like either these ROMs were provided to MAME or someone programmed this set from the MAME ones, either way it's a non runner unfortunately.

  7. Too easy, that is. He's expecting somebody else to do all the leg work for him like he usually does.

  8. I think you can see the rot starting to travel under the green solder resist/lacquer. It may not be broken now but over time, will be.

  9. Clean with 100% ipa.Not vinegar.leave to dry thoroughly.Clean with fibre glass pencil. Then if tracks are ok repaint with solder resist.red or green

  13. Electrician? Are we talking a pcb level electrical technician, an industrial electrician, a domestic electrician? Haha when we want an industrial electrician at work we get lots of electricians apply. Usually they second fix (put socket fronts on after a rewire) or pull new cables into a house. When asked about 3 phase star / delta they look blank and gulp. There are many areas of speciality regarding qualified electricians, most only know one specific area. It is the ones that cross over into multiple skills and areas that are the gems. If your "electrician" states that corrosion from alkaline battery leakage cannot travel up wiring inside the sheathing, then unfortunately he is wrong. It happens, pretty much the same way battery rot on a PCB travels along the copper tracks "under" the solder resist (green lacquer) that is on top of the copper tracks. I presume you have seen this with your own eyes before.

  14. There's a world of difference between your typical electrician and an electronics engineer, and in my experience most people are completely ignorant of this difference.

  15. Is your electrician qualified. If so maybe not on fruities.Believe me,mr 96 knows his stuff.

  16. If you look at battery damaged boards you can see where corrosion has spread along one track to the otherside of the board. Other tracks much closer can remain untouched. It does travel. Why do you require proof- just use long fly wires and check your battery.

  18. Its not that I never believed you or anyone else I just needed abit more information on it and please dont get me wrong I was not knocking anyone its because of my electrician keeps saying it cant happen and had arguments with him saying and telling him it can happen , so if I notice one of my wires going black should it need changing there and then or wait till it gets more nearer to the board ?
