Thanks Bob, no not smelling it was a brief coating then good wash off ipa scrub and a good blow off with compressor I did change the 3 caps in the sound section and it did improve but still not right, the straw did trigger the sound to come back, now the board takes a fair time to come out of reset and Mostly sits with bottom left seg lit. I may change the cpu socket just to be sure, also the the B138 I think it is ? Has green on the legs so I need to source one of them , I changed the other 2 ZTX transistors before because I had them thanks Ronnie

I must admit I'm not a fan of using vinegar. If any has got under the CPU socket it may not have been washed out? Does it still smell of vinegar? One thing I've found on these boards if they get contaminated you can pick up stray voltages all over the place. It really affects the sound but could do the CPU and any of the other chips in that area. When I get an intermittent sound problem I touch the postive lead of the meter on the bare board anywhere near the pot and the three white box caps. If you gently breathe on the board in that area you may see a few volts on the meter which is more than enough to upset the audio chip. That could be the same near the CPU too. Sometimes a good IPA scrub will sort it, sometimes not. I use a special aircraft cleaning solvent for difficult cases. Not sure what it is but it does the job. You can monitor the output voltage of the audio chip on pin 8 and it should be roughly half the supply voltage. If it's contaminated a puff of breathe will drive that voltage up and down like a you know what's drawers! Another thing you can check is the CPU socket pins, make sure they have enough grip. It only takes one pin to be iffy.

Need some help with my hi roller mps 2 it was working fine after a clean up of the battery are and removing that edge connector and checking all the traces and via’s, although the sound was a bit hit or miss at times! anyway it died on me again and to my surprise I could see some green had formed on the cpu pins ! Clearly I did not clean it up properly so I did do the area with vinegar then washed it went over with ipa dried it with compressed air, did some more via’s directly under the battery but it’s now all over the place ! Did a short video to show the behaviour any advice welcome thanks Ronnie IMG_5601.mov

Yep, it does make it an MPU2. They obviously made these before the MPU2 was released to give the extra functionality, and then developed it into the MPU2. Managed to get it working today.

Maybe for star nudge video? Jan 1980.

Now that is certainly different! I assume it makes a mpu1 into a mpu2?
-
Wow never seen that before either bob .er silly question but what Does the add on baord do and why is it there ?
-
Well I thought I'd seen everything about the MPU2 until I received this today. Not sure what to call it, Frankenstein perhaps or just MPU1 ½? It's a bog standard MPU1 with an add on chassis! The two boxes are bolted together and a patch cable links the two boards. There is also a small sub board for the outputs.

Well,I have to admit..18 years have passed, and I'm still none the wiser. But my kids have grown, and left!! The bell fuit machine, I kind of recall. They had another called rubies and diamonds, which was a 2 quid / 4 quid repeater, respectively. System 80??. They could go mental, as Pete has testified. I don't think the resources have found these machines. Yet. Statto

There are retro arcades dotted around there is a bowling alley in Preston that has old machines to play
-
A- up to you B - licensing to let people play, costs money. Premises also cost money. Parts and overheads cost money. Also, loads of people out there like to hit machines when they don’t win, why would somebody risk that? C - Get buying, or visit some classic amusements. Some people call stuff from 20 years “old school” some people are talking about 40 years ago. If you’re talking about stuff from 90’s/00’s there’s plenty of places to visit

Pin 16 on the Z80 (IC9) goes to pin 12 on the CTC (IC8) and pin 17 on the Z80 goes to pin 13 on the CTC. I think that I'm going to redo the small board because there are poor contacts sometimes. IC2 cop499 Pins 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (ground), 6, 7 are 0 volts, Pin 8 is 5,2 volts. IC1 CD4069 Pin 1, 3, 9, 11, 13 and 14 are 5,2 Volts. Pins 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 12 are 0 Volt. Pin 6 is 0,74 Volt. IC3 ILD74 Pins 1 and 2 are +12 Volts. Pin 8 is -12 Volts. Pins 3 and 4 are volt. Pin 7 is 4,80 Volts.

Hi, I am new here but use to play emulated fruit machines from back in the good old days. I have been wondering laterly: a) Should i buy a machine b) Why is there no place to go to play free play old school fruit machines c) I want to play old school fruit machines again like i use to many years ago!

Pin 26 on the Z80 should be the RESET, pin 17 is NMI which usually should be pulsing but if it's connected to the RESET line that would explain it. Not sure why that should be as my knowledge runs out at that point? Pin 16 isn't on the diagram which is the INT line, also inactive. There's folks on here a lot cleverer than me that would be able to explain this. OK so it would appear that IC13 is ROM1 and that one is enabled so it looks like it's reading it.🤞 Tracing the o/p of the COPP chip via the isolator chip IC3 pin7? The diagram shows P10 pin 6 and P1 pin 13 which goes to IC2 pin 12. So where does P10 pin 6 go?

Can't confirm sorry as we've only had Cat C machines, but I thought Cat D didn't need the dongle same as the clubbers
