That’s what I thought, the sensor would lock out pounds of tube low. No signs of bodged wiring all look factory, I tried the mech back Razzle and guess what? Won’t take 10p but credits for 50p! Maybe the mech is iffy but I used it for a long time in hi roller with no issues. i removed the black mpu plug still no 10p acceptance. Took a pic of the black switch diagram

What is the history of the machine, it sounds like it has had a fault in the past and someone has had a go and made it worse. I would have thought it would always take 10ps no matter what the sensor says, it just stops it giving change out for the 50p or alters the payouts to stop the tube running empty.

Been at this 2 days! A known tested me126 would not take any coins in my big shot, the mech was tried in razzle dazzle and took all coins no problem. So I swapped the mpu over, still the same, I then swapped the mech loom still the same. So a culprit seems to be the 10p tube sensor, they are the starpoint opto type, swapping that out it would take all coins but not 10p! And now will take a 50p but not give credits! Mpu swapped again same result, no 10p and 50p no credit given my head is done in! Fairly sure it’s not an mpu issue or the coin mech, might be these level sensors but I’m out of ideas? Any help most welcome thanks Ronnie

Nice work. i did a similar thing with a Nudges Unlimited a few years ago. Thats one thing I like about that type of cab(the part of a cab that usually rots away is quite easily replaced and it’s just coloured black rather that a hard to match veneer).

It's all about the bass! Nice work and needs to be good to keep the sides from popping out the dowels! I have just dome same for big shot

A bit more success today. The last couple of days I've been trying to get a 4x20 LCD to work instead of a VFD for the Chico game. The VFD's are so expensive so having one for a spare is not on but being as LCD's are under a fiver it made sense to try and use that. The good old Arduino was used as the interface between the board and the LCD My coding skills for the Arduino are somewhat basic so my old mate Duckduckgo AI came to my rescue. It still took a long time of trying various offerings of code before I found one that would actually work. The thing with AI you have to be so specific on what you want it to do but once I gave it all the right bits of info it came up trumps. Not exactly 100% but good enough to know it's working. https://youtube.com/shorts/7uQOyLWrSpU

I'm always amazed by these old techs, not a transistor in sight! Thanks chaps.

Thanks for posting the pics ron .hope this is OK bob . The reel deck is the true oddball here as its used light sensors with standard looking bulbs

Here is the Star Nudge machine

Yeah thats right ronnie .quite a heavy weight cab and well made . This carfield has a lot of bespoke parts particular to carfield/dranfield machines. Also one oddity is the use of barcrest mpu1 machine fruit symbols instead of the uusual style of fruits carfield usually used . Not sure why or how they got around to being allowed to use them 🤷🤷🤷
-
Ok bob ill see if I can get ron to take a few pictures .unfortunately ive only really took pictures of the reeldeck as its pretty unusual for an electro and a little bit similar to the ace sys100 nifty nudger deck we had to repair .
-
Like the look of that nick, reminds me of the old jpm electro was it red arrow?
-
I'd like to see a pic of the internals anyway as I do find these electro machines fascinating. Let's hope the fella comes up with the goods.🤞

As I always say Andrew, if it works... it works!
-
very familiar! I made one up for someone to help them that had one missing, it was temporary to prove the machine worked, it did and nothing more was ever heard about it! this was my veroboard version lol April 2013, temporary was permeant lol (another thing i never got any money for doing)

Wow that's quite some heat there Bob but what great repair and novel idea of raising the resistor off the new board .
-
I just can't resist a challenge, it'll be my downfall one day. So, a bit more on the Chico Display PSU board. The original board had got well overheated so the only thing to do was make another one! Here's the before and after... I thought it would be a good idea to raise the power resistor off of the board with some ceramic spacers in case of an overload. All ready to go back.... On the original board the power resistor just fell off as the solder had melted! Also the regulator's joints were all dry!

Hi bob sorry its a electro mechanical machine from around 1978 . Anything from dranfield or carfield is quite rare on the paper work side. Im asking on behalf of ron Clark who is kindly taking the restoration on .. its in quite a state although ive done a fair bit to it already .dranfield still exist and ron contacted a fella there and hes got back to him and is looking so we might get lucky there .
