Yeah might be as easy to make a bit of loom with a header for the machine matrix plug with the %pin shorted. I love faults like this...where theres not much info. The switch matrixes usually seem to be massively overkill for the number of inputs the game actually uses, they always seem to do the easiet thing possible when getting creative with adding stuff. It could also be a shorted imaginary button in there aswell, or extra wire linked to a door switch return. Defo one that having the machine would help. Great machine to work on though.
-
Don't know, haven't got to the bottom of that yet but there has to be something somewhere even if it's just wire links in the loom. The delights of PC92!

Pictures: I suppose that the relay is sort of protection device - that perhaps there's a short somewhere and it switches on and off? The battery was also removed, it was completely dead so no difference now... RAM is on the small PCB, and there are two erasable EPROMs on the mainboard. Any chance they keep the program data and RAM is only for keeping scores and current games?😞
-
Unfortunately no, I only know that it was in the Netherlands and the previous owner also bought it somewhere... I think originally it was taller as there are holes for coins on the base. It doesn't work unfortunately, top lights up but the relay on mainboard clicks constantly for now. Mainboard was slightly damaged by battery acid but after thorough cleaning and replacing two transistors which had their wires corroded through it's still the same. I will send some pictures of inside later. Any general schematics would be nice to have as my time is limited (curious little boy). In theory I could draw it myself as I worked as a mechanic of printing presses but it's too much of a hassle. Cheers, Piotr

If I remember, at the time there where some dodgy 🤠 conversion kits for this series of game, Andy Capp, Hyper Viper etc... to convert to all cash £5 jackpot, same pic for all the different machines, I remember doing a Andy Capp, we had no glass so I changed the £6 for "Jackpot" also in the hope of a jackpot increase in the future 🤑, some hope, never thought I would more or less retire before it happened 😁

Hi Piotr and welcome, That looks an interesting machine, do you know any of it`s history? Do you know if it works yet? I assume the 2000 jackpot is paid by the attendant (i cant` quite make it out from the photo). Pictures of the inside would be good when you get chance. Cheers Jim

PJ. started following New owner of 2000 Jackpot
-
Hello, few days ago I became an owner of 5-liner called "2000 coins Jackpot". To find its way to Poland (where I live) machine certainly lived through a lot. I really hope I can find some help here, as unfortunately for me I am more of mechanical and electrical guy and I am still not convinced about those fancy electronics and processors - although I know the basics of digital circuitry. Best regards, Piotr

Is the % key external from the board or still on dips?
-
Definitely no boards in the machine and it is a front opener. Ah yes % key, at least that proves I'm on the right path if emu does the same.
-
It's quite possible it's the %, as that's what the error is it's the same in the emu, if you get that 402 error you just add some checkboxes (buttons 11,12,13,14). and that clears the error, and the machine will run.

I love those old machines. its bring back my memory and I enjoy playing with it

Not my first Rodeo, when do we get paid?😂 All jokes aside can the guy with the machine confirm if theres any boards located in the machine? I'd defo be interested ina dodgy switch matrix plug for the board if there is. Is it the very last front opening cab?
-
Hi People... does anyone have an Epoch machine that uses this plug? If so please can I have a pic of the plug wiring? Thanks
-
OK, things are looking up. I've discovered that connecting switch return 5 to any of switch feed 2,3,4,5 clears the 402 error and it then goes into the game. So I'm guessing these must be the stake switches?
-
Just come across another doc from Crazy Pays which says a 402 error is a Hopper very low warning even though it say No % key detected. Who writes this stuff? So I possibly need to know now which switch matrix pair the hopper connects to just in case.

It's an actual repair so I haven't got any pics I'm afraid. Rotten plugs is always a good avenue to go down but you'd think it would be the same fault on all boards? At present I can't see why one board appears to work but not another. I'm sure I'll crack it soon but like all these things without all the info it becomes a bit of a puzzler.

Yeah no worries. So is this a repair for an actual machine then or are you experimenting with the Rom code? If it is for a machine the guy could have rotten or damaged plugs for the switch matrix. As I say, for some reason I find this machine insanely cool so I'd be interested to see what you do with it. I'd absolutely love one but pc92s are rare. Love to see a few pics of it.

Thanks for that Matty, looks really easy to make something up. Actually that makes perfect sense if it uses the switch matrix, I'll see if I can get some more info. Update on the code, I can select the two options in door open mode (with the supposed bad board) as I can with other boards so that isn't the issue. It still fails with the 402 error though. I'll post this version a bit later as it might come in handy for someone. Looks like we're getting to the bottom of it now.

If its for the last Gen front opening machines theres a chance it could have a prize and steaks board in it. This became a bacta standard and they stopped using the normal dip options in favour of all the coloured 'keys'. Ive never owned a pc92 like that so cant be sure...sadly lol. Ive seen a theme park in that last cabinet. Thats what I would be looking to find out though. If there was seperate boards to take the 'keys' in the machine I would expect it to be wired in with the switch matrix wiring in the machine... If I had no prize and steaks key fitted or was testing eg an m1 rom that required one it would do the same thing. Boot with the door switch open. Tell you what rom it is (20p 25p) but then close the door switch and it would give the same type of error on the bench. Pics are just for reference of an m1 prize and stakes board. The industry started using the coloured keys. Its all wired into the switch matrix. Red circle is not relevant.
-
Bench testing. I've managed to get hold of the same code so I'll see what difference (if any) that makes. Don't know about a price/prize key board, big hole in my knowledge here as I've never seen or dealt with one. Any ideas where it would connect to?
-
Hi Bob... did you have the whole machine or are you bench testing the board? I was referring to a price/prize key board potentially in the machine or could be a switch wiring problem in the machine itself (if there is a price/prize key board). If so the usual dips for setting the price could be invalid on the bench with this rom. Sounds like 20p/25p roms but theres just no way of selecting it (if its on your bench). Thats why im thinking of external from the board.

Hi Matty, thanks for the reply. I've tried this on three different revisions. The owners boards are both PC92-108-003. The other two I've tried are PC92-108-002 and PC92-108-005 (Manhattan style). I've not seen any difference with any switch settings although I only did a quick test. Now all these boards behave exactly the same but the users boards don't with the game software he has? All the boards have the Real Time Clock fitted if that's what you meant about unpopulated areas? Earlier versions of Theme Park don't appear to want a Stake Key and run quite happily. The machine doesn't appear to have a Stake Key board as with the 'good' board it fails on boot up with the 402 error so you have to open the door, it resets then you can select 20p or 25p on the Alpha, hit start and it boots with no errors. Then you can shut the door and all runs as normal. Out of interest where would the Stake Key board be wired to, I would think either the RS232 25 way connector or the 14 way dil socket but the 'good' board in the machine doesn't have this. What does this board consist of as maybe I can make one and see what that does. This could be a wild goose chase at the end of the day but I'd like to understand what's happening. It's probably all in the game manual if I could find one. It may even be the case that the 'good' board is the one that's wonky!

Glad it sorted you mate (Mark here)

Hi there i have a 4 pound HIT THE TOP machine (barcrest 1985) It is 4 pounds but i have a 3 pound version too. i like the 3 pound game better as it offers you the chance to HIT OR MISS on every game where as the 4 pound is capped. money waiting if anyone has one. the glass should be in ok condition with mask still attatched please. if not i am also on the lookout for SMASH AND GRAB or GRAB THE BANK glasses as i have the program card to SAG and i can run the game in this machine with an extra switch line for the exchange please DM me here thanks

What PC92 revisions are the boards? I think ive seen upto revision K. Ive noticed aswell that the revisions are significant because they re-drafted out the the whole board! Some have the Manhattan traces going horizontal on the top layer some vertical. Ive always thought-wow why the hell did they have to do that!? Ive never seen a board revised that much! There could be other differences with later boards and later games. You could try the dip switch merry-go-round to see if they could be potentially using different switches. Do the boards you're using have any unpopulated areas? Also could it be a later bacta era machine and theres potentially a stakes key board missing or anything in the wiring for a key board. Im particularly interested in this machine so it would be great to see pics of it. Following this one! **edited issue 7 not K**
