Are You a Spambot ?

  1. Hi, I'm rebuilding 3x Ambassador Gum MPU4 victim of battery leakage. Vinegar bath, distilled water, new outboard battery,... The machine #2 itself is good and tested with a working mpu4. I'm working on MPU4 mod4 #1A : On start-up I have "AG3 0.2", the 4 wheels initialise but wheel C seems blocked, lights turn on and then "AL3" message is displayed and everything is blocked. The message error isn't in the error list, any idea ? Thanks Arno
  2. Hi, I'm rebuilding 3x Ambassador Gum MPU4 victim of battery leakage. Vinegar bath, distilled water, new outboard battery,... The machine #1 itself is good and tested with a working mpu4. I'm working on MPU4 mod4 #1B : On start-up I have "AG3 0.2", the 4 wheels initialise, lights turn on and then "AGPR ERR" message is displayed and everything is blocked. I've tried different program module cartridges and always the same error. The message error isn't in the error list, any idea ? Thanks Arno
  3. Hi everyone! Forgive me if this post is in the wrong place. I recently picked up a tired looking Barcrest MPU5 machine, Golden Dragon. Strangely enough i love playing this machine and other Barcrest's of it's era more so than any modern machine. Aquiring this machine has lit a fire within me and i'm loving working on it to get it restored and in tip-top shape again. I've dabbled with fruit machines in the past, power supply repairs, general maintenance etc but this was many years ago but picking this machine up has reestablished some enthusiasm lol. Now i've gone through it and replaced all the knackered bulbs, tidied the cabinet, replaced a sticky reel mechanism, and it's running... However: it's that age old problem of being stuck in freeplay mode. Powered up it states DOOR 78:00 which after a quick refresher search on this fabtastic forum i established that it is indeed a door switch issue as it implies. Should be easy to sort you'd think! Well it's got my head in bits lol. I'm not overly familiar enough to realise what's wrong, but i do believe someone has been playing a game of switch-the-wires on the lower cabinet panel switch. 6x contacts on the switch, comprising of two independant switch circuits with NC/NO/COMMON. Simple right? Well the orange and blue go to NO/NC and the COMMON is not even used, and the other switch side has red and white to NO/NC with the COMMON unused. I'm assuming this is wrong! Surely the switch won't function without the common used, as it's meant to switch the common through to the other wire depending on whether you want it normally open or normally close. So i swtched it to make more sense and put one wire on each side to the common and one to the normally open pins. No change, still DOOR 78:00 when powered up and pressing start adds credit and begins freeplay. I then looked over to the top overhead cabinet and that does indeed use the common, again with a red and white wire set and an orange and blue wire set. There are some spurred off wires from the red and white which jump to green wires with push fit insulated spades - not sure of their relevance. I assume this switch is ok, the cabinet knows when the overhead upper cabinet front is lifted. Now someone has removed the actually locking barrel to the overhead, the mechanism slides and locks it shut but there is no barrel plate to 'lock' it shut. There is a small paddle switch near the missing lock barrel which i assume is to possibly detect if you have physically locked the unit with a key? I have tried taping the paddle down to close the switch but again, still have DOOR 78:00 message and freeplay. On the rear of the cabinet is a 'hopper refilled' button, and at the bottom near the cash drawers is another switch possibly labelled by a nearby sticker saying hopper dump. There appears to be a panel of wood missing here, does this need to be there to hold the hopper dump switch in? I believe the dump switch only dumps the hopper if you press it following a sequence involving pressing start but does it also double up as a cash drawer closed/enclosed switch sensor? Again, holding it in does nothing and the DOOR 78:00 remains. There is one final hidden switch tucked up on a dividing wall inside the cabinet with no label and in a very strange and awkward position. I also noted that by the PSU there is evidence that another unit was once installed and has now been removed, as there were additional earth straps, a red and black (power?) pair of wires that once traced go to the MPU5 but were not wired to anything else and seemed to trail the cabinet as a spare power source point in multiple locations (?) and finally two cut green wires (traced and went no-where so carefully removed) and an orange and blue pair also cut which go to an alarm led in the cabinet that is not connected. What has been removed? The wiring isn't connected anymore so should have no effect on the unit but i'm wondering if alterations to the cabinet switches may have been made... The machine plays ok in free play and no other errors come up. I successfully changed the jackpot and stakes back to what they should have been on, and believe i have reset/cleared the hopper levels by following a procedure i read although i haven't filled the hopper up with any coinage. I really need to verify the upper and lower cabinet switch and establish why the machine is so insistant that a door is open but i'm not fully familar with the other switches. I thoroughly appologise for sounding like an idiot or someone who shouldn't be touching these things... i just need to get my head round a few basics. I am unable to source a manual for the machine as i believe Barcrest had model specific manuals rather than a manual for machines in the same design series. I did find a MPU5 manual but it doesn't give pinout information for the cabinet switches. Can anyone spare me the time just to help me familiarise myself with the other switches, like near the latch barrel (whether it is relevant or not etc) and kind of point me in the right direction for continueing and diagnosing? I really want to learn and get involved just i've been a bit overwhelmed with too much general information that i can't apply here. I can take some pics if iit helps. Perhaps i've overlooked something so simple! Lots of questions in my post, sorry i haven't kept it simple. I have an inquisitive mind lol. Thankyou for taking time to read this Drew
  4. hi & just wanted to say a huge thanks to those who make and post classic machines - brings back great (and expensive!) memories. always on the lookout for classic 90's barcrest machines in the uk but it seems they are like hens teeth these days. if anyone's selling one please let me know! thanks : )
  5. hi All. I am hoping somebody can offer some advice. I have a Barcrest Supernova machine, which is set to operate at 25p play, with £25 jackpot. I am hoping to set this for 10p play and £25 jackpot. I have a stake & prize key (selectable type) which I have tried to set up for this, but I keep getting an "Invalid Key" message when I try to start the machine with this key installed. I want to keep the £25 jackpot, because the machine has this included all over the display, but I do want to reduce the stake for home use. is there some procedure I am missing, and should I be resetting the machine to accept the new key settings or something. Any advise would be very much appreciated. Many thanks, Ian.
  6. Evening everyone, Sorry if I am annoying people with my requests. I just wondered if anyone has a spare, working mpu4 board (preferably one with a new battery fitted) mod4 for a barcrest. I would of course be will to pay postage etc or if you are close enough I could collect. Thanks a million, ps a special thanks for those that have helped with your invaluable advice so far... it has save me a lot of searching, time and wasted money on unnecessary items.
  7. Morning All I wondered if there was anyone that could possible assist. I am new to this site and have started on my first restore / build on a barcrest mpu4 viz machine. Just trying to find a alpha numeric display as my current one doesn't work. If anyone is able to assist as these parts seem to be like gold dust, unless I am looking in the wrong place... Thanks for your time everyone.
  8. I'm from Holland and own the slotmachines Goldrun, Top Deck, Twentyone and Reel Cash. Next to that I own some Williams pinball machines.

  10. ok, so had following fault on a club calamari barcrest mpu4..... upon power up the hopper ran spitting out coins.... then upon test/hopper dump/ normal payout the hopper would not operate giving "obstruction alarm" the mpu4 was dead prior to this so that got changed straight away. the fault was the following open front door, put your hand to back on cabinet above power supply and there is a board 5x6 inches. it has 4 or 5 connectors on it. 4 lines of components, which are 3 pin rectifiers, zenner diode, tiny capacitor and 4 resistors. i had the first line of components all dead and open circuit. changed the lot and cost me like £5 from cpc.... all working fine now but just have to sort the c435a coin acceptor! ide like to say thanks for all your help guys....hope this helps other users in future i have put a pic on here of the offending board
  11. Hi I am looking for roms for a Barcrest MPU4 Fright Night, if anyone can help I would be very grateful. Last ditch attempt with this machine so unless someone can help it looks like its for parts. Thanks in advance
  12. I've had this machine sat in the garage for some time as I wasn't sure I could even salvage it. Artwork is OK, but buttons missing from the bottom, chrome badly scratched, but the worse bit is inside. Most of the lamp masks have melted as the previous dipstick owner had put 5w car bulbs in Now here is where I had a spot of luck. Recently, up came for sale a top glass and a bottom glass complete with surround and buttons The artwork was shot on both, but I plan to repair the melted lamp masks with the one on the other glass and just swap the bottom glasses over and use the new complete surround. Due to the bulb issue, the mpu was completely burnt out and the psu shot too. I do however have some spare mpu's that I needed to get around to repairing, so this gives me the incentive. Before anyone says - I'm NOT attempting to remove the damaged lamp mask from the good glass as it will likely damage the artwork. My plan is to remove the burnt/melted bits only and cut out the bits I need from the mask on the other glass. Oh yes, the jackpot decal was a poor photocopy, so need to make a new one
  13. One of two of you know I have aquired another Club Crackpot machine with earlier roms that we already have. I have extracted and posted here. They are version 2.0 I have tested in the emulator and they work, but it doesn't look as though the pots will go high as was thought played over £100 through and pots didn't go up very quickly or over a fiver before paying out. P1 and P2 need 128k roms and P3 needs 64k roms (I expect you can use others by changing jumpers on the rom card) I will happily burn them for anyone, but I don't have any eproms of that size, so you would need to post me some. 14. Can anyone help me?????. I have a barcrest club frenzy that is displaying alarm 54-11 cpu bus error pc2a7f6 1ddcoooo**** i have replaced the mpu, the reel driver and the power supply but no change. Any ideas???
  15. Had this machine for a while, but had no motivation to repair! As you can see the artwork is really bad. If you touch any of it, it just flakes off Anyway, a MASSIVE thank you to Mike (FruitSim) who kindly let me have a set of glasses for the machine Phil.
