  1. Thanks, Bob, I will do that. I ordered all the components in this area, so I hope that it will be OK after that. Yes, the fingernail test is very effective. See you soon.

  2. The only reason they used a germanium diode was the voltage drop is only 0.2v (approx) so you could use a schottky diode instead. Ah I see that is mentioned above, should have read it first! With these boards I usually change all the resitors and caps along the bottom edge, all the transistors in that left hand corner and above the crystal. Any other resistors near that area that fail the fingernail test! I just put my fingernail underneath and lift, if the legs come off then you know it's bad. All the tiny caps in that area too as they often are falling apart and do on removal. Only then will I power up and start faultfinding.

  4. I've got all the books from back from the printers now so will be messaging everyone privately who ordered them for payment and then I can get them all sent out. Postage comes under 2kg for 1 so can send one for £3.50 or more for £6.65 total. I do have a few spares if anyone else wants them as a Christmas present for themselves or to get one of their wives/partners to buy for them? Here's a few pics from the finished books. Thanks Greg

  5. Hi, Been registered on here for a while and realised I'd not been here Worked in the industry for a long time but tried to avoid machines away from work! Now retired I'm more into emulation, in particular video stuff from Bell Fruit and contribute to the MAME project when I can. Got a pinball and table top space invaders which I can waste hours playing Currently trying to resurrect a Bell Fruit Top Of The Pops SWP which is in far worse condition than I'd first been told..it came complete with a small dead body in the bottom and lots of droppings ! It's not looking pretty at the moment!
