Anyone know of this one?? Rare game !!

Recommended Posts

OK heres one for the privelidged of us. Id love to get the gen on this ol' beauty. Not a fruit machine as such but here goes....

Ok, its like Simon Says kinda game. Early 80's. It was in a typical fruitmachine cabinet. no reels, just a row of 7 different coloured large dots and all the buttons had corresponding colours. It hard a mostly navy blue top and bottom glass with archers arrows in a cartoon fashion. It was 10 p a go and the possible jackie was £10!!!!!! This was a time when most JP's were 3 in tokens!

It was a 'supposedly' random LED counter that flickered around from 10p to £10. when you pressed start it froze on that particular value. then the simon says game goes on for 7, 8 or 9 rounds. Great with mates (maybe thats why it wasnt a popular machine due to the multi player element, i only ever saw this one) and once these sequences were completed correctly, the final stage was the top glass. Almost a 'time tunnel' style decreasing set of 3 dimensional coloured rings (8 or 9) ending up in a 'bullseye'. albeit a white one. Very fast and hard to hit in the bull, but if you hung around and practiced till you got used to it, it became easier and it was real skill...no bouncing and you knew if you hit it or not.

Wish i had more info, just thought it was a rare number that someo ne can verify with me so that i am sure i aint a real loon!!!!!

I draw pictures too you know!!!!!

cheers

Hmmm, no idea really (sorry), but as an educated guess, I'd say this was almost certainly something made by VFS (Video Fruit Services)?

They specialised in this type of thing, and came up with all sorts of oversized "AWP plus" JP "true skill" machines like this in the late 80s.

Sounds like a similar format to the skill version of connect4, you progressed upto 10 all cash jackpot via a skillstop. This was late 80's.

Winstrike has been done quite a while back. There is an old classic layout for it on this site (in the layouts section) and a dx that should be on fruit-emu.com somewhere.

A sort of hybrid version of Ace Chase which uses Ace Chase graphics and the roms from Rat Race should also be available from fruit-emu.com.

Sadly the real Ace Chase roms haven't come up yet though :( .

I have searched for VFS for the simon says game. No trace. looks like a mission.

thanks for the other info, couidlnt find winstrike dx on fruit-emu.com though. This in mind, ive now decided to have a go at some of this emu stuff.. I get my turbo nutter barstard PC next week as apposed to this pile of crap im using now. I hope you guys out there can help me with this. Next trip to Cleethorpes im gonna go down to the arcades i used to play and if the same people are running them i might get some old stuff. Either pics, roms, boards, even glasses. I quite fancy restoring an old classic for real but due to space at home i'll try emu first. I'll kkep ya posted to what i find.

ANy tips for starters?

PCP for the masterspy/ luckylady??? I think i heard this is not emulated yet? Any sources of info for this?

Also, like the ace/rat, winstrike and winagain - have any of the other bwb'sbeen done. Cashcade? Surprise, stop n step?

Catch ya laters

I remember this game. There was at least one in Scarborough in the mid 80's.

I came across it early one morning with 99/endless credits on. Told the mechanic, who gave me 50p as a reward.

I ended up working there a few years later.

However, that's where my knowledge about this machine ends.

Made by Subelectro from Cheltenham.  Played the prototype in Cotswold Leisure Centre on Bath Road, many times.  Yes a £10 cash Jackpot as a genuine skill machine.
