Here is a beta version of the ROM dat, beta as in as much I've double checked the uploads recently by Louie Bee and many thanks for those but I'm not sure I've got them all 100% correct. Also uploaded are two from recent times I have no idea what they are, the clues are in the threads I guess but I've had no luck finding the information.  Many thanks again for all the posts helping identifying these roms and of course the uploads.  Cheers.

I quite like notepad++ (not the normal one that's in Windows). Just wondered if .dat extension was for database program.

Thanks for another updated rom-dat, mate.  I think you know where I'm going with this. :

Can you help me out with the necessary fills?  Fix-dat attached. :)

I quite like notepad++ (not the normal one that's in Windows). Just wondered if .dat extension was for database program.

The .dat file is used with a program called CLRMAMEPRO, mate.  For sorting, and listing missing rom files from the .dat

hi i know this topic is a touchy one as read comments on various fme sites about the ethics of using the dat files for roms and layouts but i am not sure what they are meant to signify ? does this mean when you use clrmamepro and the supplied dat files that the machines will then run in mame or will do if you have the layouts combined with the roms or converted to dats ? not quite sure the terminology as i am still trying to understand what the end product would be ?

I use mfme v6 and think it is an amazing emulator and will continue to do so as it does everything i could ever want from it and more and the manager is a great tool to keep track of machines and have previews etc i just read a few pages about the above and curiosity calls

Hi it does what it says in the readme file.  It only 'renames' files.  It does not change anything to help it run with anything else.  It's a means of cataloguing the FME collection as such.  The layout DAT has not been released for about a year now as there was some controversy on how I made them but the Rom dat still keeps being released.

For example if your zipped Rom for Andy Capp was named acap.zip it would change it to Andy Capp (Barcrest) [Rom]

It would also tell you what you were missing from the 'full set' and allow you to make a fix dat so I can take that and make up a 'set' of those you are missing.

hi geddy thankyou for clearing that up for me as i am not the brightest lamp in a layout :hmm: and fully understand how things are now and i suppose its down to the individual as to how they would like the names of the machines and details as long as they are not passed around the net without the creators knowledge.
