Royal Exchange(MPU3) Project

Recommended Posts

Bagged this for £90 of fleebay :)(the seller had offers even after id won it :tuttut: ) and picked it up today afer a 480 mile trip to guildford and back :wow: :wow:

The bloke who sold it rescued it of his brother who was taking it to the skip after it packed up(another one saved thank god)and was going to fix it but did not know where to start so stuck in on fleebay after a few months of it sitting in a Thames water workshop

Its not working but all the bits are there and the glasses and reels are in good nick too :)

Nice one Alan... plenty to do on that one, but you'll get there. It's complete and in good nick really. Just spray up the frames and tidy it up and it'll be really nice.

A good acquisition Alan. And another classic machine saved. I like mpu3 clubbers. They have a certain grandness about them. When they were played back in the day you felt like you were playing something big.

As it's known on here I am more of a JPM fan than Barcrest but not where clubbers are involved as most if not all clubs round my area had nothing but mpu3 clubbers in and that's what I played back in the day

I totally see where you are coming from there. I am like you Alan. I much prefer Jpm fruit machines. I find some of the MPU3 originals very over rated, actually much prefer the mpu3 rebuilds. But MPU3 clubbers are excellent they have something about them.

Well 4.5 years later and with a little more spare time i have decided to get this one finally done(including the unblocking the gamble restriction).

Just a few standard stripdown pics.

Cab now stripped of all parts

A small bonus while stripping the machine down..

They cleaned up ok and as all my machines are on old money they will be used.

Great stuff Alan, mine is sitting in a layer of dust! Last time I plugged it in it had given up the ghost! As had my Chances unlimited! So when I get round to it (god knows when) I have a few mpu3 boards needing fixed yet again!

Good one Alan 5 years in the making, these things take time like everything else!

Did you have the gamble restriction written out?

I did start on the gamble restriction last year but never completed it as I needed to add routines to some of the MPU3 rom code(more than I originally thought would be needed IIRC)

Likewise Nick, it will make them better to play, gets a little bit annoying when you can’t gamble higher!

The next bit is to give the base a good once over and deep clean the cab ready for the rebuild.

1278172743_BaseOld.thumb.jpg.83e2b57f27829f0edc4193ae9361daae.jpg

Next is to clean the wheels and clean all bits and bobs around the base.

953950826_BaseStrip1.thumb.jpg.c11a3f9913e7e4d9eca6f1cb47419afd.jpg102625410_BaseStrip2.thumb.jpg.46cdf4e815eb93d65bb71e0ff75a0681.jpg

The base was in decent condition and just needed some elbow grease and some paint to bring it up to scratch.

1617395498_BaseDone.thumb.jpg.ea67aa275bf0efabfa727a07ecf8c83a.jpg

And then polish the cab inside and out.

Cab now has had its first major clean but will be done again on the outside when the machine is rebuilt.

I will do the back door and outer cash box doors later.

There is a slight repair on the 50p reject tube that was a mistake from the day the cab was built(im surprised the cab wasn't rejected by barcrest QC)

I will cover that in a later post.

Brilliant stuff Alan and so glad you have gone back to giving this machine the full works .must do a few of my clubbers like this .and the gamble unblock will be definitely worth waiting for .

Right on to that cab fault.

Look at the pictures below and you will see the fault.

This is the 50p reject chute(this must have had coins resting on that ledge at some point)

1920945092_CabFaultA.thumb.jpg.e86bbc7ea7fe79fb726a9d18df065e1f.jpg

The Blue arrow is the approx position where the hole should have been.

1163790606_CabFaultB.thumb.jpg.caf67aa47a1b5f6afe1dccaca9119681.jpg

As can be seen the hole has been cut about 2 inches too close to the front of the machine and the red arrows show an actual hole on the front of the machine.(the coin tray has been removed)

As said above how this passed QC i will never know.

The pic below shows the extent of the damage with the reel shelf removed(the orange masking tape on the outside of the machine shows the hole.

1609374869_CabFaultC.thumb.jpg.776d9902ba7fb23983773ed587aad3ae.jpg

So i needed to fill and shape the hole so coins will fall into the coin tray.

1108653536_CabRepair1.thumb.jpg.04215b5c7b952d35866eb711690b2033.jpg

Then paint the filler.

616159398_CabRepair2.thumb.jpg.84050659bcdc7a951f8285fdaaea0b30.jpg

Looks better now from the outside.

154600584_CabRepair5.thumb.jpg.560a5eb4854ec3a453dfac523e05e455.jpg

Now do some testing.
