  1. This has been bugging me for a while as I have a load of reel sensor boards to look at that are faulty. Anyone that's been down the path of repairing these knows that the TIL143 are very difficult if not impossible to buy as they were obsolete many moons ago. A seller is listing an equivalent on Ebay and I have sourced some from eleswhere and these are OPB866. I've also stocks of various other types which are the same footprint but I couldn't understand why none of them worked?? After endless searching on the net I was unable to find the datasheet for the TIL143 and came across loads of other's posts not being able to find it either. To cut a long story short I'd made the natural assumption that all these photo interupters would be identical. After many hours of head scratching wondering why it was only the TIL143's that would work on the boards it dawned on me that perhaps they were different to all the modern ones. Lo and behold that's what it turned out to be and not really in technical sperformance either, it was simpler than that. From what I've found, playing about with them, is that the detectors are fitted the opposite way round to all the modern types ie collectors and emitters reversed! From here the next thing was to design a new circuit board to take the newer types and as a proof of concept I've come up with this. Mine is on the left and I've added the luxury of taking both widths of pin spacing too. So far I've tried 3 more modern types and they all work. I have a few more to test later so I'll update the thread but there's no reason to suspect that they won't. I haven't posted before as I was a bit unsure that something so simple was amiss and that noboby else had come across it but I'm feeling a lot more confident now I've made the new board.

  2. Crazy Climber Tech MPU4 Here's another Crystal clubber, this time from the late 90's (1998). There's loads going on with this machine which makes it both fun and interesting to play. It does have it's faults though. 1 - No Sound as yet but it may turn up, you never know in fme land. 2 - It only pays out in 20p's as I can't find the hopper settings. If anyone knows them please let me know and I'll update accordingly. Keyboard shortcuts in the notes section of the emulator. Thanks to Wizard for the emulator. The rom & image providers. Please use MFME V19.8 or later to play Crazy Climber.zip

  4. ive had a eureka moment i think the best option is to use a packet of hubba bubba , take out one peice chew it and ram it behind the mpu board in the corner repeat this a further 3 times and ust wait for it to set and go hard if you use strawberry flavour or another, it may well make your machine smell nice too i dont like sharing secrets like this with just anyone . but on this occassion i thought i would

  7. When I worked at Bell Fruit Manufacturing, My depot was at Westerhope in the West end of Newcastle. Apart from a service contract to look after a few one arm machines in bingo halls, Every machine both in manufacture and on site operations were electro mechanical. No merging or takeovers from other companies, no other manufacturers machines like juke boxes pool tables or video games to look after. Only BFs own manufactured fruits. Obsolete, badly damaged and scrap machines were returned to Nottingham. Working in workshops until I passed my grade 4 then just one week later I arrived one morning not to work in workshops but taken to the stores where I was handed two bespoke wooden spares boxes containing a good selection of electro spare parts then shown outside to take possession of a new mk1 white Escort van ( all service vans including installation transits were white and only the large vans were sign written). In the van was the first time I had ever seen a two way radio never mind used one but after some good instruction soon got the hang of taking the service calls. On returning to depot you handed the spares boxes over to stores where they would replenish all the used parts and ready for you to pick up again on your way out. I was to cover area engineers sickness and holidays until assigned my own area so got to see the whole North East operation. Not including the bingo contract along with sited club machines, the AWP machines were sited in Brewery managed sites, brewery tenanted and free trade. All rented no sales.
