You most certainly do, once you have used good liquid flux you will see you can't beat it, flux in the solder is all very well but there really is not enough of it, as you might know leave the iron on the joint a bit to long and the flux disappears and when you remove the iron you get solder peaks! use liquid flux and the solder flows much better on the joint covering it all so well and really helps make the joint look original, IPA removes the excess when you want to clean up the joint. but each to there own! see above answer, hope this helps

Cmon guys give Ben a break he has difficulty with hand tremors and is trying his best ...if i lived closer to him I would pop in and do it right for him good on ya for giving it a go Ben ...BTW im using fully leaded solder that is quite possibly older than Ben & some of my machines lol

Hi Ben as previously mentioned you should use leaded solder... and you idealy need an iron you can control the temperature. 340-370'c. Lead free the melting point is hotter. If you don't you will lift tracks and pads on your epoch boards more easily. So be careful. I learned in reverse by desoldering components with a pump and rosin-flux on scrap boards Top effort though 😎

the first pic looks like its had lot of heat and the caps are removed to stop the house burning down and the second pic could with some flux with that solder

Nice one,but if using leaded you dont need this.Im still using a large roll of solder i nicked from work 15 years ago.well i had 2 but now on the second.

I did manage to get this last week, some proper liquid flux used in the industry, its now out of date but nothing wrong with it! If anyone has a small empty flux container then you can have some free just send me your flux bottle in a stamped addressed envelope and you can have some, this IS the flux you need! it is good stuff!

Lead-free solder does not mix well with leaded solder though. If you insist on using that lead-free tat then you have to remove as much of the old solder from a joint as possible before you remake it with lead-free. Read the tutorial I linked to, it's very good.

Machine arrived on Friday running in demo mode only , the battery came off today along with a reel deck clean, fly wire plus converted to new coinage im sooooo happy right now after a good clean and re-seat of all plugs and connectors the machine is playing and paying like a dream 😉 there are a lot of Hearts on this one im feeling the love :-x

You can get them from swallow amusements.i changed one recently.The ones with built in push fit connectors.I use a small flat head screw driver to push them in.

cut a margarine tub up and use some of that , dont forget to stick it together with sellotape let us now you get on
