Bought an MPU4 MOD 2 board off e-bay as I was planning on buying a machine that needed a new one.

Anyway, thought i'd test it in my Club Double.

I Changed the Battery which had leaked a bit, cleaned board.

Booted up, after 3 goes, got a reel spin error on reel 2
Then after reset it kicked out a few random 10p's
Reset again and I could hear this loud clicking - turned out to be the refill meter going like the clappers!
The meter clouded over and was very hot, so I shut it down and have not touched it since for fear of ruining my machine!!!

Am I to assume the board is fooked or are there certain components prone to failure that I could replace. http://www.fruitemu.co.uk/ib/public/style_emoticons/default/Yahoo/2.gif

Thanks for any advice
Phil.

Soaked over-night, washed off, left to dry for over a day.
Is that long enough or should I try again.

Thought the sarsons would only stop corrosion getting worse, not cure it?

could you provide hi res pictures and close ups of the board to see what damage if any is done
sarsons is only supposed to neutralise the alkaline of the battery ,washed off with soapy water then clean water, left somewhere warm ie a radiator, airing cuboard etc for upto a couple of days to dry then tested
some will work straight the way but others may need fault finding done to them also depends if the board was taken out of service with a known fault on before being sold
with the help on the forum most boards can be up and running again in next to no time

Thanks. My phone camera (blackberry) is rubbish!!
My proper camera is "on loan" so it will be a couple of days before I can get some pics. I'll upload as soon as I can.

My electronics knowledge is a little rusty (!) I do possess a multimeter, capacitance meter and a decent soldering iron! http://www.fruitemu.co.uk/ib/public/style_emoticons/default/Yahoo/4.gif

vinegar alone doesnt repair the board. Once its all cleaned up you will need to check that the traces on the PCB are intact and that there are no failed components. Anything with furry white or green on the legs needs replaced.

I have attached some pics.
I know there is some track missing that goes from the single leg of the battery. I can connect that with a wire link.
It is quite hard to see where the 2 positive legs of the battery should connect to - so some advice here would be useful.

Definately some corrosion on some components.

Cheers for any advice.
