Stan I was wondering what version ROMS your Action Note is running?

The emulator is 2.2C, but mine is running 1.1 which is an old version and very generous.

I've dumped them if anyone is interested?

Mine still pays the Jackpot even when it's in all cash mode, so presumably this bug was fixed in the later release?

Good question, but at a guess, I think I am running v2.1 from what I remember it showing on the display when it boots up.

Having said that, it does actually play a nice game still.

When I go see disco-john next, I'll see if he can dump the roms for me.

You said it, I'm looking for a nice set of ROMS not too generous, but not mean. If you could get your 2.1 set dumped that would be cool?

Cheers,

Surprised you is still not sparked on the floor with the smell ;)

K, deffo v2.1 these, according to the cart sticker, and chip sticker.

Anywyas, I may have a crack with those earlier roms at some point, as they seam interesting in MFME.

I ordered some 64K eproms NMC27C64Q250 and burnt your ROM to the chip. After a few failed attempts, I finally got a successful verify using a freshly erased eprom.

Problem is the machine doesn't see the ROM. It's in the Action Note ROM card so the security chip should be fine and it's in slot IC1 on the card.

So now I'm a bit stumped! I'm not sure if the EPROMS are no good for MPU4 or what to be honest?

What make and type of eprom should I be using for a 64K ROM file for MPU4?

If any one can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Regards,

Paul

Fucked if I can remember, but I'll have a look @ the card tomorrow and see what's what.

I can verify that the v2.1 rom works in mfme with no issues, so makes me think there is a possible problem @ your end.

The ROM is fine, I ran it in the emulator. I'm thinking it may be my EPROMS to be honest.

I've tried all combinations with multiple cards and none will boot so I think I've chosen an incompatible eprom?

Not sure though?

Paul

Pic of my cart.

Two things I have noticed, is that A, my rom sits in IC3 NOT IC1, and B, chip number is 27C512-15 and a bunch of other stuff, but from what I remember disco-john telling me, is that you need a 27C512-15, and not a 27C64Q, which makes me think you have a different chip there.

Chip numbers as I see them in the attached pic....

1. 27c512-15 8923 HFC PGM@12.5v (Guessing this puppy is a 12.5 volt)
2. A880440 (M492, so I guess this is the CHR?)
3. SN74LS1ON RQRS8809 (Poss Motorola)
4. SP8812 / DM74LS245N
5. SP8812 DM74LSOON

I think you're right. I think I'm using the wrong chips.

I can burn them and verify them, but the machine doesn't see them.

I think I'll try some different eproms and go from there. I have the M492 so that must be right.

One thing, I didn't think I could use a chip as large as a 512k, but if that's what you're using then it must be OK?

I think it's just a case of persevering. I'll keep trying.

Problem is, I only know limited stuff, and not progressed on to burning / reading roms yet, but that will be next on my skills tree to learn, however, I do believe the chip is much bigger than the 64k dump John made (Yes you fucker, it stank!).

Best to ask here as to what size this cart can poss take, would be john disco.

I'm in the same boat. Been meaning to get into this ROM thing since my BBC B, so it is a new challenge for me.

I'm 90% there, just can't get the things to run in the actual machine, but I'm sure this is just a case of sourcing the right EPROM?

I'll PM Mr Disco.

Cheers,

Paul

Correct me if I am wrong, but 27c is the part group, and 512k is basically the rom size limit right.... like in this case, I am using a 512k, even though the actual rom image is a 64k, and Paul has been trying to use a 64k equivalent?

Also I guess you need to use a certain size rom chip, as the hardware on the cart demands it, and is not backwards compatible in some cases, to a smaller size equivalent?

Deffo need to look into rom dumping / flashing soon, but got no idea where to start, like with what's the best unit to get for min outlay, and what spares to stock up on..... that will have to wait anyways, as I have a poss lead on an old fave BGT machine of mine, Wild Cherry..... wished I could find a sodding pic of it.
